FAQ
S3 is a data transfer protocol that was developed by Amazon Web Services to efficiently manage and store data in the cloud. It allows users to upload, download and manage data objects using a simple API while providing high availability and security.
S3 object storage is a type of object storage that provides a scalable and reliable solution for storing large amounts of data. It is a suitable approach for a variety of software including backup, media storage and data storage for web applications.
— File storages such as Google Drive or Dropbox are suitable for storing data in small amounts and sharing it with others.
— Cloud object storage is designed to store data from large projects including games, online stores, and backend sites and applications. It is the optimal choice for businesses dealing with large volumes of semi-structured and unstructured data in various formats, and one of its critical advantages is scalability.
Object storage is suitable for storing data in any format. It can be used to store both critical data from highly loaded services that need frequent access and infrequently used data with long retention periods, such as archives, logs, reports, and databases.
You can also store backups in object storage, which lets you promptly restore data should a failure occur. The most reliable option is to host the server and backup storage in different availability zones.
In addition, object storage is used to host static websites, document collaboration within organizations, as well as to analyze and store data required to train AI models. Possibilities of storage application and scenarios of its use can be very diverse — it all depends on the company’s needs.
Cloud object storage is paid for on an hourly basis. Funds are deducted from your account at the end of each hour the service is used. You only pay for the amount of data that is actually stored in the cloud space.
The cost depends on the type of storage chosen: standard or cold. Cold storage allows you to achieve savings of up to 30% on your storage budget for infrequently used files.
The following factors also affect the price:
— the amount of data stored
— outbound traffic
— number of requests to the API, including operations of reading objects (GET, HEAD), as well as adding, modifying and copying them (PUT, POST, COPY).
— Standard storage is optimal for hosting static data that requires quick access, including media content, website information, documents and emails. In this case, traffic and query costs are lower, but the cost of the storage itself is higher.
— Cold storage provides more benefits when archiving infrequently used data. If you need to store backups, archives, logs, reports, and similar items, this storage class helps you save money: storage costs will be lower, but query and traffic costs will be higher.
Upload and download speeds vary for different projects. It may vary depending on a number of conditions: file size, Internet connection speed, data channel bandwidth and the use of specialized programs.
We store data on servers in secure data centres. The buildings are under strict security: 100 video surveillance cameras operate around the clock, monitoring both internal and external areas. Each facility features monitoring and accounting systems, and only our engineers on the premise have access to the equipment.
To get started with S3 storage, complete the registration in the Servercore control panel and create an account. Then top up your balance using the convenient method and go to the «Object Storage» tab.
