Servercore launches a third availability zone in Tashkent
Servercore, an international IT infrastructure provider, has announced the launch of a new availability zone, uz-1b, in Tashkent, hosted in the UNICON data center. The uz-1 region is now multi-zone: the uz-1a and uz-1b segments are connected by a single network with latency under 1 ms, allowing customers to distribute workloads across two independent sites. This makes it possible to build fault-tolerant clusters that keep running even if one of the sites fails. Together with the separate uz-2 zone, Tashkent now has three availability zones, while Servercore operates five zones across three countries in total.
The new zone opens up broader redundancy scenarios. In the multi-zone uz-1 region, the nodes of a database or Managed Kubernetes cluster can be placed across both segments — uz-1a and uz-1b. If one site goes down, the cluster keeps running: the load balancer distributes traffic between instances in both zones.
Infrastructure can be spread across the segments of the uz-1 pool, across the uz-1 and uz-2 pools, or between the Servercore cloud and the customer’s own site — connectivity is handled by a global router based on L3VPN technology. Customers set their own level of redundancy, from a single zone to geographically distributed sites.
At launch, uz-1b offers only new server configurations based on AMD EPYC 9554 and AMD EPYC 9754 processors with DDR5 memory. As a result, moving to the new zone can double as a hardware upgrade for customers.
“The key advantage of uz-1b is that it sits within a single network fabric with uz-1a at under 1 ms latency. This lets customers spread the nodes of a single cluster across segments: if one site fails, only part of the nodes drop out rather than the whole service. Customers also decide the level of redundancy for their own system — from a single zone to geographically distributed sites”.
Servercore emphasizes that fault tolerance is not gained automatically by moving to a new zone. Achieving it requires distributing application instances across segments and configuring load balancing, data replication, and failover. Servercore helps customers design the architecture and migrates their infrastructure free of charge.
